Q&A about Micro-teachings

1. According to the authors of the book we are using as a guide, the best way to teach children is an approach according to Content-based instruction. So that means that there are only three possible options for you:

a. Theme-based model,
b. Sheltered model,
c. Adjunct model.

The only one which could match our needs in this case is a, theme-based mode. If we follow that analogy, then we need a Lesson Plan Model that fits that approach. In this case you would have to use either the ESA or the Generic Lesson plan model (of course you knew that already).

2. You are free to choose the topic for your micro-teaching (unless you were assigned the reading, listening, speaking or writing) . Choose a topic according to the unit you are presenting, of course emphasize on one particular skill, but taking into account the three different parts of a lesson.

3. You are free to choose the age of the students. You should place your students in an A1-A2 (CEFR) or Beginner, Novice High, (ACTFL)  linguistic level of the students you are going to be teaching.

4. The micro-teaching is only 30 minutes long (the actual class, plan for that time) and the other 20 minutes we will give you feedback on your performance.

5. 6 students will serve as the students present at that class (that means we need the help of everyone so that we do not use the same fake students every class, but the whole class will participate). The teachers will only serve as teachers, the rest if not playing the role of fake students will serve as audience paying attention to  what the teachers do for reasons of feedback.

6. Any other comments, please write to my e-mail.

7. Ono more question:

The ideas we have come to understand up to now that the best way to teach children is an approach to Content-based instruction, which is Theme-based instruction. So we have to find a Lesson plan model that serves that purpose, which is either the ESA or Generic. Both this models have an structure where there is a first stage of input, practice and then output. Input in the form of Listening and Reading, and output in the form of Speaking and Writing. Now your lesson, if you have a specific skill, then that is the one you have to focus on, if not, then what you have to do is choose one on which you will focus on. Another way will be whatever your chapter focuses on, that is what you have to do
